Mare Memoria Viva is many beautiful things at once: an ecomuseum that tells the story of Palermo and its sea through memoirs and artworks on the city's coastal landscape, a cultural, educational, and environmental center, a garden with a café, and a space for gathering, chatting, and meeting.
 
 

The Museum

We are the only urban eco-museum in southern Italy that tells the story of the Palermo coast through the voices of its inhabitants and the works of artists. We are a museum-laboratory that promotes ecological and cultural practices related to the sea and the city.

With our visits for students, children and teens, we let the sea teach respect, cooperation, impermanence, resilience and depth, and most importantly, freedom.

Lido - Bar and Coastal Cuisine

New opening!
The Ecomuseum's new bar and kitchen, designed and managed by MMV in collaboration with the social enterprise LIDO srl, officially opened on 11 October. Lido is much more than just a bar: it is a culinary, cultural and anthropological project, and above all a place where you can feel at home. We look forward to welcoming you to share this new adventure of food, encounters and the sea.

We are a center for artistic production and intergenerational aggregation. A space that curates and hosts a program of cultural events, workshops, conferences, training camps, fairs, and festivals.

Our mission is to "Give Palermo back its sea." Sea means beauty, movement, opportunity, and rights.
Mare Memoria Viva concentrates in three words the meaning of a project that combines art, education and landscape regeneration to promote actions of cultural participation, environmental justice and social capacity-building.
