Mare Memoria Viva is many beautiful things at once: an ecomuseum that tells the story of Palermo and its sea through memoirs and artworks on the city's coastal landscape, a cultural, educational, and environmental center, a garden with a café, and a space for gathering, chatting, and meeting.
The Museum
We are the only urban eco-museum in southern Italy that tells the story of the Palermo coast through the voices of its inhabitants and the works of artists. We are a museum-laboratory that promotes ecological and cultural practices related to the sea and the city.
Our activities are driven by an educational, environmental and social mission. With our visits for students, children and teens, we let the sea teach respect, cooperation, impermanence, resilience and depth, and most importantly, freedom.
The Ecomuseum's new bar and kitchen, designed and managed by MMV in collaboration with the social enterprise LIDO srl, officially opened on 11 October. Lido is much more than just a bar: it is a culinary, cultural and anthropological project, and above all a place where you can feel at home. We look forward to welcoming you to share this new adventure of food, encounters and the sea.
We are a center for artistic production and intergenerational aggregation. A space that curates and hosts a program of cultural events, workshops, conferences, training camps, fairs, and festivals.
MMV is a multi-purpose cultural and education center that, in addition to the visits to the ecomuseum, offers spaces for indoor and outdoor cultural and educational activities and events with a garden, a café and restaurant, a theater and conference room, and spaces for workshops and educational activities
Our mission is to "Give Palermo back its sea." Sea means beauty, movement, opportunity, and rights.
Mare Memoria Viva concentrates in three words the meaning of a project that combines art, education and landscape regeneration to promote actions of cultural participation, environmental justice and social capacity-building.

Just a few steps from the Kalsa district and the Foro Italico, at the mouth of the Oreto River
and close to the sea of Palermo’s South Coast, you’ll find MMV: a cultural hub, gathering
place, and bar-bistrot set inside a charming former railway station, surrounded by a large
garden cooled by the coastal breeze.
The Ecomuseum offers late afternoon guided tours through its exhibition space. Through
stories, photo albums, and artistic videos, our crew has been sharing the recent history of
the South Coast for years. The experience also includes a drink at LIDO bar-bistrot.

🇧🇩 In Bangladesh la fuchka è ovunque: per strada, nei mercati, nei luoghi di ritrovo. Croccante, speziata e da mangiare con le mani, è uno dei simboli della socialità del Paese. A tavola, invece, c’è il khichuri: riso, legumi, verdure, spezie e uova in una salsa ricca e profumata. Due piatti, due modi per raccontare il Bangladesh: la strada e la casa.
🌏 È da qui che parte il nuovo appuntamento di “Il cibo è un passaporto”, la rassegna di Moltivolti ed Ecomuseo MMV che usa la cucina per mettere in discussione gli stereotipi sulle culture che percepiamo come lontane.
✈️ Questa volta viaggiamo in Bangladesh, insieme a Suhag e Raha, due cittadinə bangladesi che vivono a Palermo. Prepareremo insieme fuchka e khichuri con uova korma, tra musica dal Bangladesh e un quiz interattivo per scoprire quanto conosciamo davvero questo Paese.
